We believe that nutrition plays a vital role in overall well-being. We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Cook to join our team and support our mission by providing nutritious and delicious meals for our clients.This is a union position and will be working primarily at the Male Community Reentry Program at 6th Street in Los Angeles.The Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP), a program of Health RIGHT 360 , is a residential facility with a capacity of 200 beds, designed for adult males who have less than two years remaining on their prison sentences. Instead of being incarcerated in a state prison, eligible individuals can complete the remainder of their sentences in the community through MCRP. The program offers a variety of rehabilitative services focused on substance use disorder (SUD), mental health care, primary care, employment, education, housing, family reunification, and social support. Treatment for substance use disorders and mental health issues provided by MCRP typically lasts from 6 to 12 months, ensuring comprehensive support for participants.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare balanced, nutritious, and appealing meals following the production menu.
  • Cater meals for residents and special events.
  • Reduce unnecessary costs and utilize donations creatively in menu planning.
  • Manage food orders within budget and oversee food storage and inventory.
  • Drive the Food Services van to transport food and supplies between facilities.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in line with health codes.
  • Ensure proper equipment servicing and report any needs to the supervisor.
  • Train kitchen staff and clients in safe food handling practices.
  • Hold clients accountable for maintaining safety standards.
  • Foster team spirit and morale within the kitchen and collaborate with Food Services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS
    • High school diploma or equivalent. Culinary degree from a recognized culinary institution preferred.
    • Previous experience as a cook, preferably in a healthcare or community service setting.
    • Experience using industrial kitchen tools and equipment.
    • Experience with FIFO method.
    • Knowledge of nutritional guidelines, high-volume food preparation techniques, portion control, and food preservation.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
    • Strong communication skills and a commitment to serving diverse populations.
    • Ability to lead, guide, and train staff and clients in the kitchen in a safe and sanitary manner.
    • Ability to use the computer for training, documentation, to read and to respond to emails, and perform administrative tasks.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job, in accordance with California state law.
      • Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours).
      • Ability to lift and carry heavy items (up to 50 pounds).
      • Frequent bending and stooping to access lower shelves and equipment.
      • Capability to perform repetitive motions such as chopping and stirring.
      • Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for safely handling kitchen tools.
      • Ability to walk quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
      • Adequate vision to inspect food and read labels.
      • Ability to hear kitchen equipment and communicate effectively with team members.OTHER REQUIREMENTS
        • Qualified candidates with a criminal record will be considered for employment.
        • Must be capable of meeting health screening and tuberculosis testing requirements.
        • Must be capable of maintaining credential requirements.
        • Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining CDCR clearance and requirements.
        • Must be capable of obtaining first aid and CPR certifications within 30 days of hire.
