Product Development & PackagingJOB SUMMARYThe Director of Packaging
& Production is responsible for the design and development of all
product packaging within the aesthetic, functional, budgetary and
timing objectives of the company. The role will encompass bringing
new products to market, developing new custom components and brand
designs, liaising with suppliers, sourcing componentry, and
managing production and quality control. This individual will work
closely with product development and all cross-functional teams:
marketing, social, operations, and finance. The successful
candidate will have significant experience in packaging
development, innovation, and custom development ideally in beauty
and luxury; and be ambitious, creative, detail-oriented, and
self-motivated.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead all packaging-related aspects of new product development,
including technical, aesthetic, testing, costing, and timing.
- Source components and obtain quotations for all new packaging -
products, kits, sampling, etc.
- Identify innovative components and creative approaches to
packaging.
- Lead new custom tooling development, evaluate technical
drawings, and fill requirements.
- Present in weekly meetings to Founder, Brand President, VP of
PD, and team.
- Kick-off new briefs to the Creative Team and create new design
options for review.
- Act as liaison with vendors and identify new partnerships.
- Create project timelines and ensure timely deliverables.
- Development and approval of all artwork & color matches.
- Create and issue specifications for all new items and update
existing product specs as required.
- Oversee component suppliers and contract manufacturers during
development, line trials, and production.
- Supply mechanicals, artwork, and color matches for incoming
inspection and creation of technical manuals.
- Evaluate, approve, and maintain component drawings and
specs.
- Oversee quality control and review new components to ensure
compliance within the written specifications.
- Demonstrate the ability to identify any potential problems that
may result from timing, insufficient technical capabilities,
capacity at fillers, errors, or cost constraints. Develop options
and recommendations that address project issues, and implement
solutions.
- Address quality complaints and troubleshoot to resolve.
- Develop F&As and product spec sheets for fillers and
warehouse packout.
- Custom size shippers and performing drop testing, transit
testing parameters.
- Conduct feasibility analysis on design, products, and
speed-to-market.
- Manage compatibility testing and function testing.
- Act as subject matter expert on technical packaging issues,
material/product interaction, decoration, and component & fill
production on the line.
- Manage artwork trafficking process from assembly of elements to
final press proof approval and print production.
- Constantly evaluating new packaging innovation with vendors and
trends.
- Responsible for all 1st production approvals for new launches
and ongoing production need for replenishment.
- Tracking all reorder artwork updates and ensuring timely
deliverables. Working closely with print vendors to expedite
timelines where necessary.
- Support the Marketing Team with social influencer mailers:
briefing creative team, development of all packaging and specs,
cost and timing, budgeting, invoices, print production, and
assembly.
- Source, develop, and execute Marketing GWPs, Merch, and DTC
exclusive items.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an

- Passionate about the beauty industry, fashion, and related
fields.
- College degree with at least 8+ years' relevant work experience
within prestige beauty product development.
- Degree in packaging engineering or related technical discipline
is a plus.
- Experience with custom packaging required.
- Domestic & international travel required.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects through strong
prioritization and planning.
- Proven track record of taking ownership and driving
results.
