environments.Job SummaryRed 6 is seeking a Senior Mechanical
Engineer to contribute to the next generation of augmented reality
(AR) hardware systems for military training and commercial
applications. In this role, you will lead the mechanical design and
development of precision components and assemblies for cutting-edge
AR devices, including headsets and optical systems. You will work
at the intersection of advanced technology and practical
engineering, collaborating closely with cross-disciplinary teams to
create hardware that meets the demands of real-world use. Your
expertise in CAD, precision mechanical design, and system
integration will help drive the development of innovative solutions
that redefine training and simulation capabilities. This is a rare

mission-critical environment.Key Responsibilities:
- Mechanical Design: Lead the design and development of precision
mechanical systems and components using SolidWorks, ensuring
functionality, manufacturability, and reliability.
- Prototyping and Testing: Create prototypes, conduct rigorous
testing, and iterate designs to achieve optimal performance and
durability.
- System Integration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to
integrate mechanical designs with optical, electronic, and software
systems.
- Analysis and Validation: Perform detailed structural, thermal,
and tolerance analyses to ensure mechanical systems meet stringent
performance and environmental requirements.
- Documentation: Generate comprehensive CAD models, detailed
drawings, and engineering documentation for manufacturing,
assembly, and quality assurance.
- Vendor Collaboration: Work closely with suppliers and
manufacturing partners to ensure high-quality production of
components and assemblies.Projects May Include:
- Designing robust mechanical systems for precision hardware and
sensor integration.
- Supporting the development of lightweight and aerodynamic
head-mounted devices.
- Developing systems for sensor enclosures, tracking components,
and hardware optimization.Experience, Skills and Required
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a
directly related field (Master's preferred).
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in mechanical design for
high-performance hardware systems.
- Technical Skills:
- CAD Expertise: Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) for
3D modeling and technical drawings; SolidWorks is highly
preferred.
- Precision Design: Strong foundation in precision mechanical
design, with expertise in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
(GD&T) and tolerancing for tight tolerances and
high-performance systems.
- Manufacturability & Assembly: In-depth knowledge of design for
manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA), ensuring
efficient and reliable production workflows.
- 3D Scanning: Experience leveraging 3D scanning technology as a
tool for reverse engineering, design validation, and
prototyping.
- Additive Manufacturing: Familiarity with 3D printing
technologies and their application in prototyping and low-volume
manufacturing.
- Problem-Solving: Advanced analytical skills, such as FEA and
CFD analysis, to validate designs.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to mentor junior team members
and contribute to team growth.
- Collaboration: Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced,
interdisciplinary team environment.
- Communication: Clear, professional written and verbal
communication skills.
- This position may require a security clearance. To obtain
clearance, employees must show proof of US Citizenship.Preferred
Qualifications:
- Industry experience in AR/VR hardware development or optics
integration.
- Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes, including
injection molding, additive manufacturing, optics manufacturing or
lightweight composites.
- Experience with innovative designs for advanced display systems
or spatial computing.
