Sr System Admin-AIX Servers and Storage
 
The Sr System Admin for IBM AIX Servers and Storage will report directly to the AIX Infrastructure Services Team Lead and will provide central accountability for all AIX Infrastructure Server System Administration Services which are those activities associated with the installation, maintenance and technical support of existing and future AIX-based system configurations and supporting systems software (e.g., operating systems, utilities, databases, and middleware) necessary to deliver the required Services hosted on these platforms that support customer’s business applications. The Sr System Admin for IBM AIX Servers and Storage position will be the senior technical resource providing systems engineering and system administration services for which the AIX Infrastructure Server team is accountable.  Systems engineering and system administration services are those activities associated with the provisioning and management of the Data Center existing and future server environment using ITIL processes. The Sr System Admin for IBM AIX Servers and Storage is responsible for providing highly responsive, flexible BIM AIX infrastructure server services to the County of Orange.
 
Key responsibilities:
 
-Provides Senior level AIX Infrastructure Server design and engineering solutions to meet the needs of the client.
-Provides system engineering and administration (e.g. configuration and performance optimization, access controls, manage files, disk space management , apply APARs, and configure and manage LPARs)  and systems programming support for IBM AIX V6.1 & 7 based hosting systems required to deliver services and meet SLRs on a 7X24X365 basis.
-Review, install, configure, test, and implement new releases of AIX 6.1 TL9 and V7 operating system software with a focus on using quick deployment/recovery software such as IBM’s Network Installation Manager (NIM) and cloning via MKSYSB images.
-Analyze IBM Power 8 server hardware and AIX 6L Version 6.1 and/or 7 operating system software problems.
-Provide storage administration support for IBM V7000 Storage system to include set-up and maintenance of replication, snapshots and other related tasks.
-Develop and maintain IBM AIX system utility programs and scripts in the Korn Shell (KSH) to manage the system with an emphasis on automating routine tasks.
-Install, test, and provide technical support, administration and security administration for hardware and Software to deliver services and meet SLRs.
-Install code fixes for all AIX services elements (e.g., hardware, middleware and OS Software).
-Provide onsite support as required and coordinate with third party provider for ticket resolution (e.g. Support third party remote diagnose, coordinate third party installation of physical parts replacement, etc.) for AIX based hosting systems.
-Document and maintain in the Policies, Standards and Procedures Manual Data Center operational procedures for the AIX Infrastructure Server System Administration services team.
-Interfaces with Data Center Tower Leadership and technical support personnel, ITSM service delivery personnel, Application Support personnel, and contract support personnel.
 
Required Skills/experience:
-5+ years' experience providing infrastructure server engineering and administration services for IBM AIX server computing environments.
-Experience as a “hands on” advanced systems administrator installing, configuring, and updating the AIX Version 6.1 and 7 operating systems.
-Experience as a senior AIX systems administrator managing servers in an environment consisting of 20 or more LPAR servers.
-Experience with IBM Power 7/8 server employment and support for local clustered and extended clustered environments.
-Experience with IBM Power HA Clustering and Extended HA Clustering planning, employment and support across multiple sites.
-Experience with IBM V7000 Storage management and replication.
-Experience developing and implementing Unix Korn Shell (KSH) and/or Perl scripts for automation of system monitoring and maintenance procedures.
-Experience with Logical Partitioning and Virtualization on IBM Power 7/8 systems.
-Experience with configuring local and SAN storage on AIX 6/7 systems using Logical Volume Manager (LVM) and Object Data Manager (ODM).
-Experience in performance tuning on AIX 6/7 using the VMO, IOO, NO, NFSO and related AIX performance tuning commands.
-Experience working in commercial or local government business environments; experience working with Orange County beneficial.
-BA or BS degree or equivalent experience. Preferably in a technical field.
-Excellent Communication Skills – written and oral.
-Excellent planning/time management and client-facing skills.
 
Additional Desired Skills/experience:
-IBM Certified Systems Administrator beneficial.
-ITIL V3 Foundations certifications beneficial.
-Experience in employment and support of IBM Tivoli monitoring/reporting and productivity software tools.
-Disaster Recovery Site implementation and maintenance for IBM AIX computing environments.
