Descanso Modern Taqueria opened its doors in Costa Mesa in 2018, setting the standard for elevated authentic Mexican cuisine. Just over five years in, our success has prompted us to grow our brand and expand into the city of Los Angeles. Later this summer, we'll be welcoming guests into our new location in the heart of the city to enjoy our unique elegant take on the rustic street-vendor experience.Descanso celebrates the authentic flavors and recipes of the street food of Central West Mexico and presents them in an elegant full-service setting. Concept creator Rob Arellano pulled from his own Mexican heritage to create a never-before-seen restaurant experience rooted in nostalgia and comfort that speaks to how we live and eat today. Our guests come face to face with a Planchero or Plancha Chef as regional classics are made to order in a lively setting that brings in the smells sounds and energy of a bustling Mexican town.We are currently seeking Planchero Candidates to join us in bringing our unique dining experience to life in our new location in central Los Angeles. The Planchero is the core of the most signature aspect of our concept. The person in this role not only delivers the fresh authentic flavors of our twist on Mexican street food the Planchero also provides lively interaction with our guests that immerses them in the ingredients and techniques of our cuisine. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who has the ambition to take command of a culinary operation as the role of a Planchero is to essentially operate a one-person kitchen.The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of 1 year of cooking experience in upscale or casual elegant concepts. Candidates with Front-of-House experience could be considered even if cooking experience is limited.
  • Working knowledge of fundamental culinary concepts. Experience with Mexican cuisine is a plus.
  • Experience with Teppan-style cooking or interactive food service such as a sushi bar is a huge plus.
  • The ability to work unsupervised and complete tasks according to a strict timeline.
  • Strong communication skills including at least conversational level English is a must.
