Director, Revenue Accounting to manage and oversee all aspects of
revenue accounting functions including revenue recognition,
contract review, revenue-related processes and controls, and
revenue systems, while ensuring timely and accurate reporting. This
role will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive
operational efficiencies and ensure the revenue function can
support the company's growth and financial objectives. The ideal
candidate will possess extensive experience in revenue accounting,
technical accounting knowledge, and a proven ability to lead and
develop high-performing teams.
This role reports to VP Accounting and can be based remotely,
however, candidates commutable to our Chicago office our
preferred.Job Description and Requirements Job Responsibilities
- Act as a leader and strategic resource to the company for all
things revenue-related
- Develop team objectives and strategic roadmaps to align with
company growth and other priority initiatives
- Oversee the revenue recognition process in accordance with ASC
606 and other relevant accounting standards
- Oversee a robust and scalable contract review process, ensuring
that salient contract terms are captured and considered and that
revenue is recognized in accordance with GAAP
- Collaborate cross-functionally with billing, product, revenue
operations, sales, and legal teams on new products, initiatives,
contract analysis, and deal structuring - assessing impacts to
revenue recognition, operational scalability, and business
risk
- Manage the month-end revenue close process including reviewing
journal entries and account reconciliations and performing
analytical review and fluctuation analysis on revenue to support
accurate and timely financial reporting
- Lead financial close review meetings, reporting on and
delivering results and key metrics to business leaders
- Develop and maintain revenue accounting policies and procedures
to ensure they reflect best practices and regulatory
requirements
- Ensure internal controls for revenue accounting are adequate
and operating effectively
- Provide thought leadership on revenue processes, analytics,
policies, and procedures that leverage technology, maximize
efficiency, and provide scalability to support company growth
- Assist with the setup/maintenance/enhancement of revenue
accounting systems, ensuring they meet maximize automation,
business needs, internal control requirements, and accounting
standards
- Manage periodic stand-alone selling price analysis
- Oversee current expected credit losses (CECL) calculations and
methodology
- Lead or assist with research and preparation of revenue related
technical accounting memos and position papers
- Assist with preparation and review of revenue-related
schedules, financial statements, and disclosures for internal and
external reporting purposes
- Lead support for external audit requests and analysis
- Participate in special projects, initiatives, and ad hoc
requests related to revenue accounting
- Provide leadership, coaching, and development for the revenue
accounting team, fostering professional growth and
developmentMinimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent work experience,
CPA preferred.
- 12+ years of experience working in multi-national general
corporate or public accounting (mix of both preferred), including
3+ years as a supervisor/leader
- Strong understanding of US GAAP, ASC 606, and revenue
recognition principles
- Technology-company related and/or SAAS experience
- Proficiency in financial software, ERP systems, and revenue
management software and tools, preferably experience with
Salesforce, Zuora or similar application
- History of development of process improvements and internal
controls implementation and management, familiarity with
Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements and documentation.
- Highly organized detail-oriented with experience managing
multiple priorities, large-scale projects, and deadlines in a
fast-paced environment.
- Strong leadership skills with experience leading, coaching and
developing a team in a rapid growth environment.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving
skills.
- Strong communicator with excellent verbal and written
communication skills, ability to effectively collaborate with
cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
- Flexibility and the ability to adapt quickly to shifting
company or team goals.Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a usage-based revenue model
- Experience working in a public companyRelativity is committed
to competitive, fair, and equitable compensation practices.This
position is eligible for total compensation which includes a
competitive base salary, an annual performance bonus, and long-term
incentives. The expected salary range for this role is between
following values:$154,000 and $230,000The final offered salary will
be based on several factors, including but not limited to the
candidate's depth of experience, skill set, qualifications, and
internal pay equity. Hiring at the top end of the range would not
be typical, to allow for future meaningful salary growth in this
position.
