www.LAalliance.org.ROLE SUMMARYWHY TEACH AT ALLIANCE?At Alliance,
Science Teachers use local and global phenomena to spark curiosity
in every scholar! Our goal, as a science team, is to ensure all
scholars can apply what they are learning in the classroom to real
life and can advocate for change on scientific issues. Teachers
have access to NGSS-aligned curricula, such as Amplify Science in
Middle School and Discovery Techbook, in High School to engage
scholars using science and engineering practices so scholars are
doing science. During the year we offer learning opportunities in a
variety of ways: formal PDs, embedded departmental and individual
coaching, learning modules to collaborate with science teams across
schools, and book clubs around culturally relevant STEM
education.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIESProvide Excellent
College-Preparatory Instruction to all Scholars
- Develop and maintain a positive, achievement-oriented,
supportive, and collaborative culture of high expectations that
motivates and inspires scholars to learn at college-preparatory
levels.
- Effectively execute assigned curriculum and just-in-time
support to reach every scholar, regardless of prior academic
background, disability, or English language fluency.
- Engage in the process of internalizing assigned curriculum,
tied to specific grade level and content standards, in teacher
teams and individually to prepare daily lesson plans, instructional
materials, and exit tickets that are aligned to rigorous
college-ready standards (e.g., Common Core State Standards, Next
Generation Science Standards, etc.).
- Welcome and incorporate feedback from the coaching, guidance,
and feedback provided by school leaders, peer coaches, and content
support managers.Uphold Alliance Values and Standards of Excellence
- Exhibit a continuous improvement mindset to provide scholars
opportunities aligned to Alliance's Graduate Profile.
- Ensure timely and high-quality submission of school
requirements such as intellectual preparation/lesson plans, unit
plans, and re-teaching plans.
- Provide a coherent and supportive classroom culture aligned to
the school-wide culture policy and keep documentation of all
interventions taken to support scholar engagement, learning, and
well-being.
- Maintain accurate, current records for attendance and
coursework, and submit timely completed report cards and
school-wide assessment records.THE IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE
- Belief: Hold the belief that all scholars, regardless of their
economic or social demographics, deserve a quality education and
can earn a four-year college degree.
- Social Justice: Desire to be a part of Alliance's social
justice mission, integrating anti-racist, student-centered
instruction, and teaching in systemically underserved communities
in Los Angeles.
- Culture: Demonstrate an ability to develop a positive,
achievement-oriented, supportive, and collaborative culture of high
expectations that motivates and inspires scholars to learn at
college-preparatory levels.
- Expertise: Have strong academic content expertise,
instructional and classroom management skills, and in-depth
knowledge of effective evaluation and assessment techniques to
drive scholar learning. Thrive in an environment of high
expectations and collaboration.
- Mindset: Hold a growth mindset and commit to continuously
honing their teaching craft.
- Relationship-Building: Have strong interpersonal,
communication, and relationship-building skills with both children
and adults.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Applicants who will hold any of the following credentials by
August 1st are welcome to apply:
- California Single or Multiple Subject Credential (Clear or
Preliminary)
- If you hold a Multiple Subject Credential, you must have a
Biology Authorization.
- California University Internship Credential Eligible (Intern
eligibility letter required).
- Proof of California Credential in Progress (University email
can satisfy this requirement).
- Non-California Credential Transferring to California; please
provide proof of transferring credential in progress (i.e. from
other U.S. states).
- Active California teacher certification in the assigned subject
area(s) and a valid English Learner Authorization (e.g. CLAD) by
August 1st.
- Candidates who don't hold a single subject credential or have a
pathway to obtaining a California teaching credential will not be
eligible for a teaching position.

excitement for education.**The salary range for Burton Tech and
